Opening and closing a cashier shift

Manage shift start float, process sales throughout the day, and reconcile at end of shift.

5 min read

Every POS session runs inside a cashier shift. The shift tracks the opening float, all sales and refunds during the day, and the closing balance. It must be closed before the next cashier can open a new one.

  1. 1Open the POS from the sidebar under POS → POS Terminal and click Start Shift.
  2. 2Enter the opening float — the cash in the till at the start of the day.
  3. 3Process sales throughout the day. The shift accumulates totals automatically.
  4. 4At end of day, click End Shift from the POS terminal screen.
  5. 5Count the physical cash in the till and enter it. MSME Link calculates the variance.
  6. 6Confirm the close. An end-of-day summary is available for the manager under POS → Shift History.

Only one shift can be open at a time per branch. A manager can close a shift on behalf of a cashier from the Shift History page if needed.
