Project Management
Managing project budgets
Add revenue and expense budget lines and track actuals against them.
4 min read
Each project has a budget made up of revenue lines (expected income) and expense lines (expected costs). As transactions are posted against the project, actuals accumulate and you can compare them to the budget at any time.
- 1Open the project and click the Budget tab.
- 2Click Add Budget Line and choose the category: Revenue or Expense.
- 3For expense lines, select the GL expense account.
- 4Enter the budgeted amount and a description.
- 5Repeat for each revenue stream or cost category.
- 6View the Budget vs Actuals section to track performance in real time.
Budget versions are supported. If the budget is revised mid-project, create a new budget version rather than editing the original — this preserves the history of changes.
