Raising an invoice
Bill a customer and post to accounts receivable in the general ledger.
5 min read
An invoice is the primary billing document. Confirming an invoice posts to Accounts Receivable, updates stock (for stocked items), and records revenue in the general ledger — all in one step.
- 1Open the confirmed sales order and click Create Invoice, or go to Sales → Invoices → New.
- 2Review all line items and prices. Set the invoice date, which drives the payment due date from the customer's credit terms.
- 3If the invoice requires approval, click Submit to Workflow. Otherwise click Post.
- 4Print or email the invoice as a PDF. The PDF includes your company logo and bank details.
You cannot edit a posted invoice. To correct an error, raise a credit note to reverse the affected lines and re-invoice.
Allocating payments
Once a customer pays, go to Sales → Receive Payment and match the payment to the open invoice. The invoice status changes to Paid or Partially Paid and the accounts receivable balance reduces.
